Tennessee couple confirmed as Powerball winners
John Robinson and his wife Lisa had their Powerball ticket verified at the Tennessee lottery headquarters on Friday, officials confirmed.
The Associated Press could not immediately verify the Robinsons’ claim.
When asked during a news conference yesterday why they were going back to work, Lisa Robinson responded “why not?”
The law in Tennessee stipulates that the victor has to come in person with the ticket in their hand and identification of the person who bought it, which the Robinsons have not done yet.
“Now I’ll be nervous because everybody knows, ” John Robinson told his interviewers on the “Today” show set, where he appeared with his wife, daughter and lawyer.
“I really didn’t feel like stopping that night, but I was like, ‘Yeah, I’ll stop, ‘” John said.
Robinson said he bought four quick-pick tickets, one for each family member, and went to lie down when he got home.
However, the California 7-Eleven location that sold a lucky ticket received a mock US-million cheque Thursday, according to the outlet.
No one has stepped forward yet to claim the third winning ticket, sold at a Publix grocery store in Melbourne Beach, Florida.
Roy’s wife Mary Sue said she can’t remember ever seeing so many cameras in her town of 6,000 people, but she told FOX13 she’s happy to take it all in.
“So I got to looking, and I saw it, and I looked again, they’re the same”, Lisa explained of the moment she learned she was the victor.
“When I heard about the billion dollar Powerball jackpot, I chose to try my luck and buy a ticket”, said Walker. The identity of the victor is not yet known.
A nurse in Pomona believed she had the winning ticket after her son told her as a prank that a ticket purchased by her boss, Shlomo Rechnitz, had the winning numbers.
In Tennessee, the winning ticket was sold at Naifeh’s Food Mart.
The retailer will receive $100,000 for selling the jackpot-winning ticket. They were picked during a late Wednesday draw at lottery offices in Tallahassee, Florida.
