Tennessee GOPer: ‘Christians Who Are Serious’ Should Be Armed
Conflicting reports are emerging about whether the gunman who killed nine people at an Oregon community college singled out Christians as his victims.
In a Facebook post receiving national attention, Tennessee Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey is urging his fellow Christians to arm themselves. Whether the perpetrators are motivated by aggressive secularism, jihadist extremism or racial supremacy, their targets remain the same: “Christians and defenders of the West”.
He wrote that it was “time to prepare”. After the shooting last week, Tennessee Lt. Governor Ron Ramsey inspired Christians who’re critical about their religion to consider getting a handgun carry allow.
The Blountville Republican went on to say he believes “it is better to have a gun and not need it than to need a gun and not have it”. Then, he added: “Our enemies are armed. We must do likewise”, Ramsey said.
The post also includes a link to a webpage on how to apply for a handgun carrying permit in Tennessee.
Reactions to Ramsey’s comments have been mixed. Most recently, Schenck, Director Abigail E. Disney, and victim of gun violence and documentary subject Lucy McBath, completed the week-long, multi-city “Faith Over Fear” tour, meeting with pastors, students and parishioners across the country to discuss these issues.
“We can stand up and not worry about being shot for our beliefs, or maybe we can stand up and shoot back”, Williams told WVLT-TV.
“Persecution and targeting of Christians isn’t just in Iran or the Middle East, it’s right here in America”, Graham wrote in a recent Facebook post.
“Christians should own guns if they choose to, but anyone who can legally own a gun should be able to do so, if they choose to”, said Leroy Farris with the Nashville Armory. “Its a matter of saying the words I’m a Christian and you get the discount”, Williams said.
