Tennessee reinstates wide receiver Von Pearson
Tennessee announced on the football team’s official Twitter account Friday that Pearson had been reinstated.
Tennessee suspended Pearson on April 24 shortly after Knoxville police named him as a subject in a rape investigation. Officers say the victim identified the suspect as Von Pearson, 23, originally from Newport News, Virginia, who plays wide receiver for the team. USA Today reports that the Knox County district attorney’s office said Pearson won’t be charged in connection to the case due to insufficient evidence. Tennessee coach Butch Jones is expected to address the media after Friday’s practice with Von Pearson being the hot issue.
Pearson, who was the Vols’ second leading receiver last year, has been cleared to enroll in fall classes at Tennessee, the university announced. The fall semester begins on August. 19. “That’s privileged information between our administration, myself and him”.
Pearson had 420 total yards and five touchdowns as a junior in 2014. “There is no entitlement in our football program”. He said the team was too sloppy on offense and committed too many penalties.
