Tennessee unemployment rate at 5.7 percent for September
The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development released the figure Thursday.
Regionally, the Twin Cities metro, Duluth-Superior and Rochester areas all added jobs; the Mankato metro was flat and St. Cloud was down slightly.
The summer months have seen ups and downs. That equates to about 35,400 people employed this year who were not this time last year.
“It’s going to be interesting next month” when the October figures are reported, Gutierrez said.
Clayton-Matthews said the gross state product should be “at least” 4.6 percent in 2015, up from 3.6 percent in 2014. Employment was down by more than 7,800.
Companies in education and health services businesses cut an estimated 4,700 jobs, however, and trade, transportation, and utilities employers cut 3,000 positions. The construction and financial activities industries also saw losses of 800 jobs each. That represents the largest year-over-year gain so far this year in the sector as well as the biggest September since 2006. “We’ve been immune to it, so we’ve been growing quite steadily since actually April of previous year”.
Kentucky’s unemployment rate fell in September to five percent, down from 5.2 percent from the month before.
The unemployment rate is based on a monthly sample of households. The state added nearly 5,000 jobs in September cutting the unemployment rate to its lowest level since Gov. Chris Christie first took office after being elected in November of 2009. An estimated 1.1 million are out of work across the state.
But a survey of establishments found that most sectors shed jobs in Massachusetts last month. New claims for unemployment also declined by about 2,500 between August and September.
