Terror raids in Australia after fatal shooting in Sydney
“At 6am today (Wednesday) more than 200 officers executed warrants at premises located at Bursill Street, Guildford; Lane Street, Wentworthville; Lockwood Street, Merrylands, and Booth Street, Marsfield”.
They come after a fatal shooting outside the NSW police’s Parramatta headquarters on Friday afternoon.
Two men aged 16 and 18 have been arrested at Wentworthville, two men aged 22 and 24 have been arrested at Merrylands and a 22-year-old arrested at his Marsfield home.
The raids were co-ordinated with the counterterrorism squad and homicide squad.
The action comes in the wake of a fatal shooting outside the NSW Police’s Parramatta headquarters, according to reports.
On Tuesday, a 17-year-old boy was arrested and charged on the way to his school in Sydney’s west for allegedly posting threats to police on social media.
When questioned about how the public can be confident of police counter-terrorism efforts when a gunman was not even on their radar, Burn said the reality is that police teams cannot monitor “everyone, everywhere, all the time”.
“I find it incredible to think that a 15-year-old boy could undertake this action without any form of help or assistance or encouragement“, Premier Mike Baird has also said.
It is also understood Farhad’s sister Shadi went missing on Thursday and flew out of Australia on a Singapore Airlines flight bound for Istanbul and may be attempting to reach Iraq or Syria.
