Terry: Chelsea are the team to catch
A rare win over Chelsea, in the English season’s traditional curtain-raiser, was sealed by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s fine goal after 24 minutes. I can honestly say that I cannot see that happening ever again. They earned the right to be here by winning the FA Cup.
“Listen, it hurts. It doesn’t matter if it’s a friendly”, he said. It’s frightful. It’s not nice.
“It could be a blessing in disguise for us – a wake-up call”.
“Personally, and I can speak for the rest of the squad, we have been serious every single year I have been at the club about winning trophies. It’s going to be even tougher this year”.
“We asked the question to ourselves and you could see we really want to compete and do the next step”. “In this moment we don’t have this problem and obviously I always felt the respect and he [Abramovich] knows that he has my respect and my pride to work for this club”. “With him in goal they have got a better chance”.
“For me? No, because it is Arsenal versus Chelsea, it is not the two managers”. “I thought we were on top if anything”.
“Wembley is the last place you don’t behave properly, I don’t think a manager has to shake hands with another one if he doesn’t want to”.
“[Losing’s] awful, whether it’s against my kids or anyone”. That’s the same as the manager on a daily basis. We haven’t lost many at Wembley.
But after five wins in pre-season, Arsenal will go into this weekend’s league opener at home to West Ham United brimming with optimism.
“Chelsea (were) four times champion in the last decade”. Some of them believe that Wenger can finally put his ghosts to bed by claiming the trophy. Last season, the Gunners were one of the most attractive teams in the entire Premier League, but at the end they barely managed to finish at second place, twelve points behind the champions.
Ivorian defender Serge Aurier contributed in both halves of the pitch, putting in a fine defensive display and scoring a goal in the early stages of the game. If we won’t do business, we don’t do business.
“It’s disappointing because it hasn’t happened too many times since I have been at the club”.
