Tesla offers new ‘ludicrous mode’: Zero to 60 in 2.8 seconds
The recent upgrade by Tesla For its Model S vehicle is a classical representation of how technology can shape up the auto industry.
Remember when Elon Musk publicly adviser Tesla Model S customers not to attempt tuning their cars, as the hardware and software on the electric sedan was not created for tune-up purposes?
To account for this new acceleration, the two engines now have a combined 762 horsepower. Tesla said the next version of its Roadster auto will have a “maximum plaid” speed, but that Roadster won’t be available for another four years.
Musk revealed that none of Tesla’s old clients had complained about the acceleration or top speed, but the company wanted to achieve a new feat and encourage new buyers to try out their products, by successfully executing this major upgrade.
The company also announced a rear-wheel drive version of the Model S that will cost about $5,000 less than the standard model.
TIME reports that Musk said that the vehicle will hit the quarter mile in 10.9 seconds and it is like owners have their own, private roller coaster.
UK buyers will be expected to wait until late 2016 for the Model X to be converted for right-hand-drive markets. This now totals 310 miles on the new Model S 90 kWh, 330 on the 90D and 305 on the new P90D.
While Tesla’s CEO did admit that the Model X was “hard to engineer and it’s hard to produce”, it slowly but surely made its way to the production line and the company began the year with 20,000 reservations for the Model X. However, Tesla does not want to forget about its current range and aims to make some vast improvements when it comes to the next generation Roadster. Tesla shares rose 3% to $274.66 Friday. For example, this takes our current longest range model, the 85D, to nearly 300 miles of highway range at 65mph. But that’s just on the public, official front – according to sources allegedly close to the company, Tesla already have a specific launch date in mind. “They are not going to do that with the “ludicrous” mode or a $5,000 price cut or a 15-mile range extension”. Part of the delay was because Tesla could not use the same parts for both the X and the S.
