Tesla’s first SUV, the Model X, is finally hitting the road

These customers included select early investors and board members, as well as Tesla‘s CEO Elon Musk, who was handed Model X No. 1. There’s the baseline 90D model, which starts at $132,000 and boasts a 257 mile range, 155 miles per hour top speed and the ability to go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 4.8 seconds.

Speed: The Model X will be one of the fastest electric cars on the market when it’s released to the public sometime in the second half of 2016, according to the company’s website.

Tesla hasn’t given any detail regarding internal capacity of the Model X, however, the X has seats for seven adults and can carry anything, weighing as much as 5,000lb (2,270 kg) along with its Sport Utility Vehicle credentials.

Production is expected to kick into overdrive next year when Tesla ramps up production of both the Model X and S vehicles, according to the Los Angeles Times. The charge time is around 30 minutes.

What do you think about the Model X?

The all-wheel drive Model X has a range of 400 km with a 90kWh battery. Most cars of its size have trouble with those tests because they are tall and tend to roll over – but the huge, heavy battery that’s mounted on the bottom of the vehicle means that it’s unlikely to roll over.

In the past, this kind of door has had a big problem. The company has yet to state what the minimum opening height of the doors are. To be more precise, the doors will always open a little bit, up to the limit of what the sensors detect. The vehicle is equipped with sensors for the doors that calculate the height of any ceiling and open accordingly. If the auto determines that a crash is imminent, brakes are automatically applied with or without the input of the driver. There is even a bioweapon defense mode in the HVAC menu of the Model X. “This is a more generally [appealing] vehicle, it’s something that would work better for families nonetheless”. Musk claims this feature was added to allow the front seat passenger to look up at the sky. The front windscreen is the largest available on the road and extends over the driver’s head.
