Tesla, Spotify team to offer first-ever premium service
With Rdio shutting down, the move to Spotify comes at a flawless time for Model S owners.
It’s rather interesting considering that many U.S. companies tend to introduce features to the USA market first before rolling out to other parts of the world, but either way it looks like Tesla owners and would-be owners can look forward to this feature which will be making its way to their vehicles via an update.
The Verge reported that the offering will extend to Model X owners as well.
I’m saying “until recently”, because the service is going to play its last song today, December 22.
Tesla’s Spotify integration replaces the company’s former partnership with Rdio, the music streaming service that all Model S owners used to get access to. The service does not feature ads and doesn’t require owners to pay or sign up for Spotify Premium, it’s provided as an added benefit of owning the auto.
So, the deal with Spotify took place. “Until now”, said Spotify’s head of automotive business development Jonathan Tarlton.
Existing Premium Spotify accounts can be linked to the vehicle to listen back to favoured playlists, radio stations and artists.
Spotify gave no reason as to why the service won’t be available to Americans, if it will eventually become available to them as well, or whether they will get a different music service.
