Texans’ Brock Osweiler tries to kill Broncos with kindness
“I knew there were a lot of teams that wanted his services, and I knew it was going to be tough to keep Brock here for the price that he deserved”.
Say what you will about the Denver Broncos’ struggles on offense of late, at least the team they’re facing Monday night is in the same boat. The man who had seemingly won over Broncos Country at the time said that while he was frustrated at the moment, the benching didn’t factor into his eventual departure from Denver. “That’s what we want to do”. You’d be hard-pressed to find a defense that tackles worse than Indianapolis did in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game.
The Colts placed the former Auburn standout on IR on Tuesday after he hurt his ankle in the third quarter of Indianapolis’ 26-23 overtime loss to the Houston Texans on Sunday night.
So far this year, Osweiler has given Houston a 134-of-227 line for 1402 yards and eight touchdowns with eight interceptions, and Miller is sitting on 520 yards and a TD on 125 carries.
However, it’s not the anemic performance of the Houston offense under new, $72 million quarterback Brock Osweiler that might have Texans fans concerned, but rather a report that Osweiler and head coach Bill O’Brien were arguing over play calling. If we all recall, Osweiler left for Texas after last season for a bigger contract, and partially because he was benched in favor of Peyton Manning a year ago.
Hanging on the back wall of the Broncos’ main meeting room inside their Dove Valley training center is a sign that reads, in all caps: “BE ACCOUNTABLE”.
“I think the more you play against somebody, whether it is practice or a game, you certainly will understand and recognize things in their game more often than not”, he explained. I want to see him do good this year.
“It’s not just about Brock. We know Brock. He came from here and we want to kill him”. “That’s what we want to do”. Osweiler said he and Elway chatted for a few minutes this summer in Idaho and they had a great relationship.
“I feel good”, Siemian said. I don’t think Andrew Luck was as good as he was in the first five weeks of this season, but I also don’t think he was as bad as many people have made it out to seem. And there is the coverage in back. That includes tight end Dwayne Allen (right ankle), defensive lineman Henry Anderson (left knee), rookie linebacker Curt Maggitt (ankle), wide receivers Phillip Dorsett (hamstring) and Quan Bray (ankle) and cornerback Darius Butler (cramps). “Different offense, different guys to throw the ball to, but quarterbacking don’t change. He’s throwing the ball everywhere and he’s also forcing a lot of throws so there’s a lot of opportunities to get picks”.
Meanwhile, the Broncos are 4-1-1 ATS in their last six home games, and 6-2-1 ATS in their last nine games overall.
CBS Sports reported that O’Brien and Osweiler had a “heated exchange” last week after a quarterbacks meeting while reviewing film of Week 5’s loss to the Minnesota Vikings.
Nothing Marshall or Harris said is unfair. That’s what we got back to when we all sat down and talked about ourselves Monday, from position to position, from guy to guy.
