Texans close in on AFC South title by routing Titans
Houston quarterback Brian Hoyer is in the last phase of the NFL’s concussion protocol and will start Sunday against Jacksonville if he’s cleared.
The first-place Texans (7-7), who are seeking their third AFC South title, beat the Colts 16-10 last Sunday – their first-ever win in Indianapolis.
That concussion caused Hoyer to miss the Texans’ 24-17 win over the New York Jets.
Brandon Weeden is the common denominator for both teams.
The Texans prefer to focus only on their regular season finale. Watt said. “We go out there, we win next week, that’s all that matters”.
“I’m doing everything I can to improve my health and I think it’s showing”. Mercilus had the best game of his career in Houston’s 20-6 win over Tennessee on November 1 with 3 ½ sacks.
Running back Antonio Andrews fumbled on the team’s opening possession, and Texans safety Quintin Demps picked the ball up and returned it for a touchdown.
“Quite frankly, it really doesn’t matter what anybody else does”, Watt said. “And go out there on the game field and win”. Interim coach Mike Mularkey called it a disappointing loss, with a few fans wearing the day’s giveaway – a cloth grocery bag – over their heads.
“Obviously with any concussion you’re going to be concerned, so I don’t take it lightly, I do a lot of research”, Hoyer said this week.
Brandon Weeden starting a Week 15 game with playoff implications is not something many envisioned when the National Football League season began.
Weeden entered the game early last week, and did what made him moderately successful in Dallas.
“The thing I like about Hop, he’s a quiet guy”, Weeden said. But dammit, if there’s one Texan we can say has done his job with 100 percent precision and accuracy this season, it’s long snapper Jon Weeks. “I’m good. I feel pretty good”.
If Hoyer is inactive, then B.J. Daniels, signed off Seattle’s practice squad on Monday, will back up Weeden, who was signed November 19 after being released by the Cowboys two days earlier.
Nothing changed for Tennessee in this one as Weeden led an 80-yard drive to start the second half, hitting wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins with a 15-yard touchdown catch over cornerback Cody Sensabaugh at 11:33 of the third quarter.
A subsequent penalty for 12 men in the huddle would back Tennessee up and lead to a punt instead to keep the score at 10-0 Houston. “He’s smart. He’s done a good job for us”.
They have lost all five games in which they have allowed a touchdown on a return, and four of the six opponents that have scored 30 or more did so with the help of a touchdown off a return.
The Tennessee Titans don’t have a shot at the playoffs.
