Texans’ Clowney won’t be ready for start of training camp
It’s a big week for the Texans as they get set to launch the second training camp under head coach Bill O’Brien.
The Texans selected Clowney first overall in 2014, but he was only able to play in four games last season due to an injury.
The Texans’ team doctor said recently that linebacker Jadeveon Clowney’s recovery from microfracture surgery has been “spectacular” but that’s enough for him to avoid the physically unable to perform list to start training camp.
Other moves by the Texans on Monday were Akeem Dent also being moved to the PUP list. Both missed the offseason program while undergoing rehabilitation.
According to Tania Ganguli of ESPN the move means that Clowney counts against the total roster count for the time being, but he will not count against the 53-man roster if he remains on the list into the 2015 regular season. Quessenberry is recovering from cancer treatment over the previous year plus.
Camp workouts begin Saturday morning. Our expanded Texans camp coverage carries into Sports Sunday each and every week throughout the season. Next week, the Texans will travel to Richmond, Virginia for three days of workouts against Washington.
