Texans lead Saints 24-6 in third quarter
The Texans are red hot, the Saints are ice cold.
BENGALS 31, RAMS 7 Andy Dalton threw three touchdown passes – two of them to A.J. Green – and the host Bengals ended their brief slide.
The Saints’ offense didn’t help itself and it certainly didn’t help its defense, which was under the direction of Dennis Allen for the first time since Ryan was dismissed in the wake of an embarrassing 47-14 setback to the Washington Redskins on November 15. Houston has now won four straight games to go over the. “When you have a performance like that, you feel good about yourself”. “I thought it was smooth”, Payton said of the defense.
“Any questions? Obviously tough film to watch”.
That’s not the case with his first one. Brees averaged just 4.7 yards per passing attempt. I think we’ve got a pretty close group.
Brees hadn’t been shut out personally since a November 2012 game with the Atlanta Falcons. Defensive end J.J. Watt produced both Houston sacks, and was credited with seven of Houston’s eight quarterback hits.
-That wasn’t the only streak the Texans snapped on Sunday. This past draft looks to be real good and I’m excited about coaching them.
Their streak of 155 consecutive games was the second-longest in National Football League history. The last time the Saints played a game without scoring a touchdown was on December 24, 2005 when the Saints lost to the Lions 13-12 at the Alamodome with John Carney accounting for the 12 points with four field goals.
“It’s not a fluke”, Texans free safety Andre Hal said.
The Texans finished 5 for 5 on third downs in the first quarter. Dannell Ellerbe, Damian Swann and David Hawthorne are questionable.
On Sunday, all of the Saints’ flaws were exposed.
And Payton, while emphasizing Monday that he’s still in the moment, added that he’s well into thinking about what he wants the Saints to look like and play like next season.
Hoyer went 21-of-27 for two touchdowns, while Saints quarterback Drew Brees was 25-of-44 for 228 yards. He would have had another, but Drew Brees threw the ball into the turf while Watt wrapped him up and was penalized for intentional grounding in the second quarter. So part of their 3rd down success is from the pressure they’re putting on passers with just a four man rush. He notched his sixth multiple-touchdown game of the season (10th of his career) and opened the game with 11 consecutive completions before throwing an interception.
“It’s disappointing to lose a game like that, and it’s definitely disappointing not to score a touchdown”, Payton said.
Brees has thrown for 20 touchdown passes and nine interceptions this year, but the Saints’ porous defense has been their Achilles’ heel. He capped it with a 10-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Griffin to give Houston a score on the opening possession for the first time this season. Cameron Jordan’s interception of Hoyer was the first by the New Orleans defense since Week 7.
Former Hahnville and LSU Tiger Alfred Blue ran for 77 yards and a touchdown as Houston soundly defeated New Orleans, 24-6.
Unfortunately, the Saints find themselves in the NFL’s Top 10 for a reason that many won’t be too happy about. Akeem Hunt had the team’s long gain of 17 yards. He also had two punts inside the 20 and a long of 53. He returned it to the 50-yard line. Defensively, New Orleans is allowing 30.8 points and 418.6 yards per game.
