Texans not benching Brock Osweiler for Tom Savage
Dontrelle Inman appreciates every moment in the National Football League after the winding path he took to get here. Osweiler has been less than impressive in 2016 since coming over in a blockbuster free agent acquisition from the Denver Broncos where he had been heir apparent to Peyton Manning.
“His main thing is he is dependable, ” Rivers said.
Brock Osweiler’s poor play on Sunday will not result in him losing his job. “We work hard on it with him”.
For as poorly as Osweiler has played, I agree with O’Brien here. Rivers finished 22 of 30 for 242 yards with TD passes to Dontrelle Inman, Tyrell Williams and Hunter Henry.
The Texans are now struggling offensively, with quarterback Brock Osweiler having a remarkably poor season and having a lack of offensive options with only DeAndre Hopkins and Lamar Miller being the only real threats.
The Bolts’ record now stands at 5-6 in a top-heavy AFC West; they head back to San Diego to take on the Buccaneers next Sunday. That’s how you get touchdowns. The game has a scheduled start time of 1 p.m. ET and takes place from the NRG Stadium in Houston.
INJURY REPORT: San Diego – Out: LB Jatavis Brown (knee), TE Asante Cleveland (concussion, knee), CB Brandon Flowers (concussion). He had a career-best 120 yards against New Orleans on October 2. “We prepared well. Coach (Mike McCoy) gave us a good game plan, and we executed”.
Real Clear Sports called Osweiler a “big, expansive mistake” but we think they might have meant “expensive”. San Diego has been in all 10 of its games, as each of its six losses have been by eight points or fewer. Given the ongoing struggles of the offense, it’s unjust to saddle the Texans’ defense with the blame for their late-game issues, but what is true is that Houston has wavered when those tense moments have arrived. There really hasn’t been much of a doubt about their status by anyone except the team and coaches themselves.
“(It) put us in tough spots, ” he said.
Houston was driving in the third quarter when Lamar Miller fumbled at the end of a 20-yard run. Absolutely. Could the offensive line have played better [Sunday]? But he didn’t want to pat himself on the back for reaching the milestone. “Our defense battled for all four quarters, for all 60 minutes”, he said, via the Houston Chronicle. Osweiler threw three interceptions on Sunday against the Chargers as Houston lost for the second straight week. He had three picks on the day, although one was on a Hail Mary pass at the end as Houston tried in desperation to tie the game.
He was so bad Sunday that coach Bill O’Brien was asked twice after the game if he’d considered benching him for backup Tom Savage.
