Texans QB Brian Hoyer out for Jets game with concussion
T.J. Yates took over when Hoyer was hurt against the Bengals and threw the game-winning touchdown in a 10-6 victory. After their touchdown the Jets allowed a touchdown pass on a trick play with wide receiver Cecil Shorts throwing to a wide open Alfred Blue making it 17-10. Yates and Hopkins linked up for a 20-yard score on the next possession.
Hoyer got cleared after missing Sunday’s game with a concussion and will start in Week 12.
“I think anybody would be disappointed if you don’t make a play”, Watt said. They had one rushing touchdown, but it came from quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick and not one of their running backs.
Ryan Fitzpatrick will lead the 5-4 Jets who are in the playoff hunt this season. Their defense, led by Brandon Marshall, Von Miller and DeMarcus Ware (should he return from a back injury) is among the best in the N.F.L., and if Osweiler can find a way to get the ball to Demaryius Thomas, Emmanuel Sanders and Vernon Davis, they know how to get it into the end zone. It’s going to be tough. Coach Todd Bowles said Richardson would be a game-time decision. Revis probably won’t be enough alone to stop Hopkins, so I’d imagine they would send some safety help, which is where they got burned by Allen Robinson when they played the Jaguars earlier this year.
The answer is far more complicated, which is why the coaching staff has spent more than a week studying what Houston’s defense does well.
“I’m extremely upset today”, he said.
“That’s why they brought me in here, to come in and back up Brian”, Yates said.
The Jets got the ball back with 3:08 left, but on 4th-and-5, the quarterback was picked off by Eddie Pleasant. “He gave up a touchdown”, Bowles said of Revis.
Hopkins beat Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis repeatedly before the cornerback left the game in the third quarter with a concussion.
Against the Jets, Hopkins became the third youngest player in National Football League history to reach 200 career receptions and 3000 career receiving yards. He took a direct snap and ran for 5 yards two plays before the TD throw. He just can’t make plays like he used to.
“The wide receiver tried to blame some of the team’s issues on the amount of turnover they had in the offseason, saying, We had a lot of guys coming in, and what we’re trying to do is unprecedented But that is no excuse”.
Yates was a rookie in the 2011 wild card round and saw time that season with Matt Schaub and Matt Leinart both out.
But anyway, the Texans had a game to play today and they faced the then 5-4 New York Jets. In the receiving end, Eric Decker had 85 yards and one touchdown in six catches.

Next up for the New York Jets is an intraconference battle with the Miami Dolphins. Randy Bullock, who was cut by the Texans earlier this season, made a 40-yard field goal to tie it at 3 with about nine minutes left in the second.
