Texans QB Yates has torn ACL
His replacement, T.J. Yates, left with 1:14 to go in the first half because of an injured left knee. Hoyer won in Week 3 and Week 4 and started Week 5 but tore his ACL in the first quarter. He was healthy, and he was somehow able to lead his team to victory.
Brandon Weeden took over and finished the possession by leading the Texans to a field goal to cut Indy’s lead to 10-7. With Hoyer still sidelined, is it possible that Weeden could be the Texans’ starting quarterback for the remainder of the season? In his last four games against the Titans, Watt has racked up 9.5 sacks. Weeden was three completions short of the National Football League record of 24 by Donavan McNabb in 2004. If the Colts and Texans tie at 8-8 it depends on the strength of their victories.
Yates, who will be placed on injured reserve, completed 28-of-57 for 370 yards and threw for three touchdowns and one interception this season. Indianapolis for the second time this year, came into the Texans matchup with Matt Hasselbeck filling in for quarterback Andrew Luck. “It’s nice to get a win here, especially one as big as this”. Yates is not going to play another game again this year, so Weeden might be the guy for the rest of the season. In those 10 games, Blue had 7 games of 22 or less yards (including two games with zero carries).
The Colts managed just 72 total yards in the second half, a season-low 190 for the game.
Next Sunday, the Texans will be at home to face the Tennessee Titans, but they don’t know who the quarterback will be. The Texans, per usual played absolutely outstanding on defense against a Colts team that has not looked like itself all season.
Offensively, after finding himself as a free agent just a few weeks prior, Brandon Weeden stepped in just before halftime to help lead the Texans to a win. The Colts couldn’t run the ball, finishing with just 50 yards on the ground, 2.6 yards per carry. Both have logged at least three 1,000 yard seasons. Houston had 107 first-half rushing yards, 73 more than Indianapolis.
The Colts dropped to 6-8 on the season with a 16-10 loss to the Texans last Sunday in Indianapolis.
With backup quarterback Matt Hasselbeck in Pagano’s words “beat up from the feet up”, Charlie Whitehurst could potentially start against the Dolphins.
DeAndre Hopkins caught a pass in his 46 straight game. Gave up a field goal drive there at the end of the half defensively, but other than that, we had a great sudden change defense. He is 0 of 2 on kicks of 50 yards or more.
The Colts might have a different opinion about the wisdom of that approach, but that’s a conversation for next week.
