Texans RB Arian Foster has groin injury
After practice, Texans coach Bill O’Brien spoke about why his running back exited practice prematurely. That leaves the Texans has his best landing spot, and with a desperate need to sign an RB who can catch passes and is tough enough to fit O’Brien’s scheme, Thomas is at his peak value on the open market. That honor would go to running back Arian Foster.
“Arian Foster to require surgery for a groin injury”.
Although Houston’s preseason schedule begins on August 15, the Texans get the regular season underway with an opener at home against the Kanas City Chiefs. He can return after the first eight games of the season. Blue is pretty big for a running back as well. Blue started three games as a rookie in 2014 and put up 528 yards and two touchdowns.
Although the Texans have help in the backfield behind Foster, it’s detrimental due to the fact the Texans are shuffling up their offensive line this year after the loss of long time center Chris Myers, who was released by the team early in the offseason.
If the Texans believe in Blue, and don’t feel comfortable entrusting a workhorse role to Thomas, they can easily deploy him as a passing downs ace and lean on Blue. We’ll definitely support him as much as possible. Running Back Arian Foster sustained a groin injury on the first day of padded practice and the injury may be serious. It happens every 12 seconds as we speak….
Foster was second in the NFL in rushing yards per game (95.8) and sixth in total rushing yards (1,246) in 2014. He averages out to 1,391 yards per season.
“As I stand here right now I have not talked to (Texans general manager Rick Smith) yet, but I don’t believe we have signed anybody”, O’Brien said when addressing the media Wednesday.
Injuries are an unfortunate part of football and I never like to see any player go down, no matter the team. That just shows his talent considering he missed three games. The Houston Chronicle reported that a deal was all but done after Thomas looked sharper than Ben Malena and Joe McKnight, who both were also in with the Texans for a workout Wednesday morning.
Foster has been a true workhorse for the Texans; however, injuries have periodically slowed him down at times.
