Texans slip in snow to Packers, lose grip on AFC South
Even after Sunday’s 21-13 win over the Houston Texans at snowy Lambeau Field, Rodgers & Co. – at 6-6 and back at.500 for the first time since Week 9 – are still two games behind the unflinching Detroit Lions in the NFC North with just four to play. Houston is now tied atop the AFC South with the Tennessee Titans who enjoyed a bye week on Sunday. The unit held Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and the offense to seven points and 111 passing yards through three quarters. Alfred Blue took a handoff down the right sideline for 25 yards – Houston’s longest play of the game at the time – to set up the Texans in Green Bay territory.
The Houston Texans’ offense has been anything but explosive this season.
Granted the Texan’s offense is limited and lacks firepower, but nonetheless it is still a much-needed win for the Packers. One down later, Brock Osweiler flipped a pass to his tailback in a play the Packers blew up immediately. He ran into Atlanta’s endzone on two occasions, but only one was a touchdown. Houston also has a minus-50 point differential this year, despite posting a 6-6 record. Rodgers finished 20-of-30 for 209 yards and two touchdowns.
The question is, with four games left to play, will coach Mike McCarthy put Starks on the bench and use a combination of Montgomery, Michael and Ripkowski the rest of the way. He directed back-to-back scoring drives of 98 and 89 yards in the second half to snap a 7-7 tie.
I wondered if Davante Adams could keep up his great play against a good Texans pass defense.
The Packers were without rookie Blake Martinez (knee) for a second straight game, so they moved Matthews inside to start alongside Ryan, who had missed most of the previous three games. Jordy Nelson stepped up however and tallied 118 yards on eight catches for a touchdown.
Many of Osweiler’s interceptions this season have come when he’s tried to force the ball to his star receiver despite him facing near-constant double teams. But first they have to get there and that’s becoming more hard by the week.
Still, after playing hurt with a bum hamstring and watching a few other teammates rise above injuries to help Green Bay build some momentum, Rodgers likes the strides being made.
“I mean we got two wins”, Cobb said. He practices every day and those are the little things that are probably the most important because I think his performance speaks for itself.
Julius Peppers still packs a pass-rushing punch for the Packers.
Brock Osweiler is the quarterback who has led the Texans to a awful season offensively, but he’s not losing hope.
