Texans Trade Brock Osweiler, Draft Picks To Browns
With backup Brian Hoyer expected to sign a new deal with the San Francisco 49ers, Chicago plans to sign former Tampa Bay Buccaneer QB Mike Glennon. They won’t trade 4 him.
The quarterback only spent one year with Houston and underwhelmed, but that didn’t stop Hopkins from speaking optimistically regarding the current Cleveland Brown signal caller.
After all, the owner of the Dallas Cowboys isn’t foolish.
So instead of becoming an unemployed 27-year-old with $37 million next year, Osweiler will now quarterback a team that hasn’t made the playoffs since 2002. The Browns can try and trade him or outright cut him when the time comes. Whether it’s Johnny Manziel, Barkevious Mingo or even Justin Gilbert, Cleveland has made some awful decisions in the draft.
So the Browns have their quarterback of the future right?
The biggest shock of the opening day of National Football League free agency, was Brock Osweiler’s trade to the Cleveland Browns.
Fast-forward one year and Osweiler has suffered a somewhat stunning fall from grace.
Cleveland is still attempting to move Osweiler in another deal.
In exchange, the Browns gave up their fourth-round compensatory pick in this year’s draft (No. 142 overall) and took Osweiler’s guaranteed contract off the Texans’ books. The Broncos wanted to keep Osweiler a year ago, so they must see something in him.
One of the more surprising moves was Dwayne Allen’s trade to the Super Bowl champion New England Patriots. Britt has caught 309 passes for almost 5,000 yards and 30 touchdowns so far in his career.
There is more cap space to go around than there are players to earn it, at least for now, because teams don’t want to set precedent by giving average players top dollar for the sake of using up cap space.
Wide receiver Kenny Britt is headed to Cleveland.
Now that’s insane in itself, but actually a pretty good move for the Browns IMO. However, the culture of winning in Cleveland has been down for decades. While it is a bad deal, it is not as bad as it looks.
