Texans Trade Keshawn Martin To Patriots
After reportedly acquiring wide receiver KeShawn Martin in a trade with the Houston Texans, we’re no longer wondering when Kenbrell Thompkins will be signed to the Patriots’ active roster but how their new addition will fit into the offense. He also returned 68 kicks for 1,707 yards and caught 38 passes for 416 yards with three TDs.
Martin is 5-foot-10 and 190 pounds and is in his fourth professional season out of Michigan State. Even though he handled kickoff and punt returns for the first two seasons, his role was reduced to just punt returns last season with the Texans seeming to perpetually be seeking someone to unseat him there. Martin was often used as the Texans’ slot receiver while playing for former Texans coach Gary Kubiak.
Martin, a receiver and kick returner, will be only the fifth wideout on New England’s current roster after they cut Chris Harper earlier this week.
By making Worthy part of the 53-man roster the team was at seven receivers and decided it was better to give the speedy rookie a chance over Martin, who had fallen out of favor with fans recently.
