Texas’ 5-game win streak ends, Seattle tops AL West leaders
Ketel Marte keyed a three-run second inning with a two-run double on a hopper just fair past third base – a play that was not reviewable under the rules. Logan Morrison led it off with a walk, followed by a double from Brad Miller to put two on the bases.
On the year, Gallardo is 2-1 against Seattle, and in those two wins he kept the Mariners off the scoreboard for 5 1/3 and six innings of work, respectively. Texas starter Yovani Gallardo (12-11) struck out Steven Baron before Marte cued his double past third.
They swept a four-game series from Houston this week to take over the division lead, but had their five-game winning streak snapped in a series-opening 3-1 loss in Arlington.
The Rangers had another close call at third go against them in the eighth, this time on a review that overturned Guccione’s decision in their favor.
“That’s a tough inning”, Banister said. But replay showed that 3B Kyle Seager’s left foot blocked Beltre’s left hand from the bag and was called out. “Two balls threaded down the line, one questionable and then a flop shot, which those happen in the game of baseball”.
Banister moved to the top step of the dugout after Marte’s double to indicate the Rangers were checking the replay, but soon came out for a heated discussion with Guccione, who eventually ejected him. “I know a ball in front of the umpire when the umpire does not have to move that it’s not reviewable”. The 21-year-old rookie drove in two runs and scored the other.Seattle closer Tom Wilhelmsen worked a flawless ninth for his 12th save in as many chances.
I’m going with a still hot Texas squad that needs this one…
“There’s so many little scenarios like that where you don’t necessarily even see it on the field that come up over the course of a season”, Seager said. That stretch began after a start against the Rangers on April 19 in which he was pounded for seven runs and 10 hits in 2 2/3 innings. Seattle came into the game leading the American League with 204 extra-base hits since the All-Star break. Paxton struck out Delino DeShields and Fielder earlier in the inning.
The moment underscored how Hamilton could help the Rangers just as a pinch-hitter. It’s the third time the Rangers have induced four double plays in a game this season, but the first time the Mariners have hit into that many since June 5, 2013, when they had four against the Chicago White Sox.
ARLINGTON, Texas-When the Texas Rangers win at Globe Life Park, something they have been doing a lot of lately, it’s a postgame ritual that the hero of that game gets a bucket of Powerade dumped on him while being interviewed by Rangers TV personality Emily Jones. For the season, he’s pitched to a 3.41 ERA and 1.38 WHIP.
