Texas A&M in 2 OTs

In a season filled with late comebacks and Hail Mary wins and all sorts of accompanying craziness, Tennessee’s luck finally ran out against the Aggies.

With all of its mistakes, No. 9 Tennessee still came back from a 21-point deficit, still scored twice in the last 2:07 and still forced No. 8 Texas A&M into two overtimes.

Oklahoma 45, Texas 40 – Dede Westbrook had touchdown catches of 71, 42, and 47 yards while setting an Oklahoma single-game record with 232 yards receiving, as the No. 20 Sooners (3-2, 2-0 Big 12) held on in the Red River rivalry in Dallas. The drive was capped off by an 18-yard touchdown pass from Josh Dobbs to running back Alvin Kamara.

NOTES: Texas A&M won a Top 10 home matchup for the first time since 1975. On a third-and-2, Knight popped through a hole on the right side and sprinted 62 yards for a touchdown to give the Aggies a 35-21 lead. Tennessee managed to rally, come back, and win the game in overtime.

The senior tackle was strapped to a board and taken off the field in a cart. Texas A&M moves to 6-0 entering its Week 7 bye. It lost to Ohio State 58-0 on October 1.

The Vols did get the ball back, but it was in a very unorthodox way. Karan Higdon, Khalid Hill, Ty Isaac and Jabrill Peppers each scored two touchdowns as seven different players scored for MI.

Auburn 38, Mississippi State 14: In Starkville, Miss., Kamryn Pettway ran for 169 yards and three touchdowns, Sean White threw for 204 yards and a touchdown and Auburn cruised. Knight also had a 1-yard rushing touchdown in overtime for the second time this season. True freshman Justin Herbert passed for 197 yards in his first career start for OR (2-4, 0-3). That’s a huge step forward for Texas A&M’s offense.

From there, the Vols quickly found a way to march down the field again, with Kamara scoring on a 4-yard TD run with two minutes left. The Volunteers fall to 5-1, but still controls its own destiny in the SEC East, though they have to face Alabama next week.

Mayfield was 22-of-31 passing for 390 yards and easily made up for two early interceptions with the three TDs to Westbrook.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Seminoles’ DeMarcus Walker blocked an extra point attempt by the Hurricanes’ Michael Badgley to seal Florida State’s victory. The win was the 10th straight for the Crimson Tide (6-0, 3-0 Southeastern Conference) over the Razorbacks, and Fitzpatrick’s 100-yard interception return for a touchdown was Alabama’s 10th non-offensive score of the season.

Hokies quarterback Jerod Evans has thrown for 535 yards and eight touchdowns over the last two games.

The Vols looked like they had an aversion to pigskin, committing seven turnovers – five fumbles and two Josh Dobbs interceptions – and almost giving A&M another after Alvin Kamara muffed a punt.

Houston’s Greg Ward Jr. went 32 for 50 for 359 yards and three touchdowns.

The Aggies have covered in four of their last five games overall but are just 8-18 at the betting window in their last 26 conference games.

For every bit of optimism spurred by what could be a turning point in this program’s history, doubt emerges from a troubling near-collapse in which the team displayed a blatant inability to close out an opponent that seemed intent on handing them a victory.
