Texas A&M: Kyle Allen Named Starting QB
The Aggies named sophomore Kyle Allen as the starter on Monday. 3 Auburn and against West Virginia in the Liberty Bowl, earning bowl MVP honors for his performance in the 45-37 shootout win. There are high expectations for Allen heading into his sophomore season after a solid showing as a true freshman.
Now Hill is at TCU, where he will sit out a year, and the man who replaced him will get a chance to improve upon his performance from last season. He passed for 1,322 yards and 16 touchdowns with seven interceptions.
Still, Allen was in a heated competition with freshman five-star dual-threat Kyler Murray through the first couple weeks of fall camp.
Allen has the job for now, but head coach Kevin Sumlin has not ruled out playing Allen and Murray.
Kyle Allen will start at quarterback for Texas A&M in the season opener against Arizona State, and with that, the signal-caller reputed to be more like Johnny Manziel will have to wait his turn for the top job. In a Kevin Sumlin offense with lots of help at receiver, Allen should post elite passing numbers this year, even if Murray steals a handful of snaps. Well, in 2014, Allen was ranked as the No. 1 pocket passer in the nation and was also a major recruiting score for the Aggies when he committed.
