Texas A&M Quarterback Kyle Allen to Transfer
He made 14 starts over two seasons for Texas A&M.
“Texas A&M University is a place unlike any other, and I wish things would have worked out here”, Allen’s statement read in part.
Former starter Kenny Hill transferred to TCU after losing the starting job midway through the 2014 season to Allen, who was then a true freshman.
The school announced Thursday night that Allen has been granted his release and will transfer immediately.
Kyle Allen’s career at Texas A&M is apparently over.
Allen, a 6-feet-3, 210-pounder from Scottsdale, Ariz., completed 160 of 283 passes for 2,210 yards and 17 touchdowns with seven interceptions.
There also were tons of questions about the quarterback position, with speculation that either Allen or Murray would transfer. Allen began the year as the starter, but lost his job after back-to-back losses to Alabama and Ole Miss. Texas A&M went 8-4 and will face Louisville in the Music City Bowl. Texas A&M fans have been giddy about Murray since the dual-sport star was snatched right from under Texas’ nose on the recruiting trail.
Even before the season, many thought it was just a matter of time until Allen gave way to Murray, who was a much ballyhooed high school prospect.
If transfer rules still hold, Allen would sit out the 2016 season and have two years of eligibility remaining at Cal as a junior in 2017 and 2018.
