Texas AD: Charlie Strong Will Be Evaluated After The Regular Season
Charlie Strong on report of #Texas player boycott: “They won’t boycott”.
Senior wide receiver Jacorey Warrick said players decided via group text message to make a public display of their support for Strong.
Asked whether he knew what the loss meant, Strong replied: “No, I don’t”. I said, ‘We got one game, let’s go get this game, let’s get to a bowl game.
From there, the season has carried the unwanted allure of slight farce, at a program with an inflated view of its own past, with the last 30 years bringing one national championship, 11 10-win seasons but also nine non-winning seasons with a 10th still possible, all at a pocket of football wealth.
During a press conference on Monday, Strong confirmed reports that a decision about his future will be made after the TCU game. The Longhorns dropped to 5-6 overall after losing 24-21 in overtime at Kansas, which hadn’t defeated Texas since 1938. “We’ll discuss where things stand after that”, Perrin said.
“Not many people look at this from a player’s point of view”, Strong said.
But Texas hasnt even been close to winning the Big 12 and may not qualify for a bowl game for the second consecutive year. Texas needs to beat TCU to qualify for a bowl this season. Patterson is a combined 28-8 in his last three seasons; Strong holds a 16-20 mark in his three years at Texas.
“You have to get everyone to rally back”.
For all its self-promotion in service of a robust brand, supported by endless revenue and its very own television network, the University of Texas handles coaching changes like a herd of longhorns in a stampede. Nevertheless, Strong said he thought a win against TCU “will help”. When Strong first arrived, he set his “core values” that included no guns, no drugs, respecting woman and honesty.
The loss happened because Trent Domingue missed a 31-yard field goal, the defense couldn’t stop Kansas from scoring its only touchdown on offense late in the game, and had because the offense had no ability to put the game away in the fourth quarter despite multiple opportunities.
Yet it became clear what the Longhorns football team wanted to do after the loss to Kansas.
“We’re just trying to come together as a family, trying to support our coach and a guy we feel is really important to our family”, Buechele said.
Senior defensive lineman Paul Boyette Jr., had tears streaming down his face when talking about Strong. “We are focused on building a total person with the players we have here”.
TCU fans might not have the same admiration for their man in charge as Texas players have for theirs. My heart hurts for him..
Several times throughout his Monday press conference, Strong reiterated that while the wins and losses don’t add up; there’s much more to the program than just what is seen on the field.
Reaction from UT football players and fans alike flooded Twitter Sunday after news of Strong’s alleged upcoming firing broke.
