Texas college quarterback Boykin arrested after bar fight
Boykin is facing charges of assault of a police officer, resisting arrest and public intoxication.
Upon the arrest and felony assault charged leveled at TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin, the No. 15 Oregon Ducks are now favored to defeat the No. 11 Horned Frogs by a touchdown when the two programs clash in Saturday’s Alamo Bowl in San Antonio, Texas. He posted a $5,000 bond and was released from police custody later that day.
So Boykin, a senior, has played his last game for TCU, ending a sensational college career. Multiple officers threatened to taser Boykin before he finally subsided, NBC San Antonio reported.
TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin and a teammate were arrested early Thursday morning after an incident at a River Walk bar where they were heckled by a patron.
“We don’t know whether he was swinging at the officer or whether he was swinging at somebody behind him”, McManus said. The officer who was struck by Boykin was treated by medical personnel for facial lacerations and bruises.
A source told ESPN’s Jake Trotter that Boykin was in his room when his coaches did curfew check at midnight, but then he slipped back out and went three blocks to a spot called Pat O’Brien’s. The TCU coach, Gary Patterson, announced that he has suspended Boykins from the game. The Horned Frogs subsequently banned him from Saturday’s bowl game, per ESPN.com’s Mark Schlabach.
Boykin led the Horned Forgs to a 10-2 regular season record with losses against the Oklahoma State Cowboys and the Oklahoma Sooners.
Boykin, who graduated from TCU earlier this month, issued the apology through his official Twitter account.
Responding patrol officers said he ended up punching a bicycle cop.
“Clearly this was not an appropriate way to act”, McManus said of Boykin.
“His teammates had tried to take him back to the hotel, and he broke away from them and came back and he got into it with officer”, McManus said.
TCU has gone 10-2 this season, with Boykin throwing 31 touchdowns and passing for 3,574 yards.
The next week against Oklahoma, Kohlhausen got the start before being replaced by freshman QB Foster Sawyer.
The fight then spilled out onto the street, according to the Associated Press. White caught 19 passes for 258 yards, Nixon picked up 66 yards on 16 catches and Doctson led them all with 79 receptions for 1,327 yards and 14 touchdowns.
