Texas elector to resign rather than vote Trump
As of Wednesday, Trump was declared the victor of Wisconsin and Pennsylvania – and he held a lead of almost 11,000 votes in MI, where the final results should be announced on Monday.
Just after 7 a.m. Sunday, Trump resumed his criticism, saying that Clinton had conceded the election in her phone call to him before his victory speech November 9 and that nothing would change.
Could a recount change the USA election result?
While technically possible, even Stein admits the recounts are unlikely to change the results of the election. Ms. Clinton got two million popular votes more than Mr. Trump. Instead, the commission voted to allow each of the state’s 72 counties to determine how to conduct the recount.
In a tweet on Saturday, Mr Trump dismissed a fundraising effort by Ms Stein to launch recounts in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania as a “scam”. All three would need to flip to Clinton to upend the Republican’s victory, and Clinton’s team says Trump has a larger edge in all three states than has ever been overcome in a presidential recount.
No evidence or incident has been cited by anyone so far, including Mr. Trump.
Conway said, “He’s been incredibly gracious and magnanimous to Secretary Clinton at a time when, for whatever reason, her folks are saying they will join in a recount to try to somehow undo the 70-plus electoral votes that he beat her by”.
Trump, however, did not take the recount efforts too kindly yesterday. It may have seemed like a long shot, but Stein easily raised more than the initial total required for the recount, and now has more than $6 million raised so far to fund filing fees and pay attorneys for recounts in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and MI. It is handed to the candidate that is able to secure a majority of US Electoral College votes, with each state being allocated a differing amount of these votes based on their population. States that miss those deadlines risk not having their electoral votes counted.
The push is being led by the Green Party’s Jill Stein. There’s no evidence that voter results were hacked or electronic voting machines were compromised. She says she wants voters to “be sure we have a fair, secure and accurate voting system”. Stein raised those concerns over the weekend.
Former Democratic Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders defended the recount effort underway in Wisconsin. That involves more than 9,000 precincts. Stein estimates the Pennsylvania recount will cost $500,000.
If it’s any consolation for Clinton – and it’s probably mighty little – she’s winning the national popular vote.
Could recount requests be rejected? .
Wisconsin officials say it will be tough to finish the recount by the federally required deadline of December 13. Michigan’s results, which show Trump leading by just over 11,000 votes, have not yet been certified.
Stein’s attorney in Pennsylvania specializes in election law.
While Clinton’s campaign said it had uncovered no evidence of voter fraud or illegal hacking, several cybersecurity experts and political advisers have urged the Democrat to challenge the election results in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania, according to a New York Magazine report.
