Texas Gov. Abbott Tweets Congratulations Before Game Ends, Astros Lose
It was a similar oops moment Monday afternoon for Gov. Greg Abbott after he prematurely celebrated the Houston Astros winning the AL Division Series over the Royals.
After that, the Royals, who were on the verge of elimination, scored seven unanswered runs, taking the game and tying the best-of-five divisional series at two games each.
Texas governor Greg Abbott knows how to pour salt in an open wound.
If there’s going to be an all-Texas ALCS, the Astros will probably need to win a Game 5 in Kansas City.
Cliff Saunders, of Sports Talk 790, took a screen grab of the later-deleted tweet. He tweeted: “No predictions”.
At the time of tweet from Abbott’s official twitter account, the Astros were holding onto a 6-2 lead entering the eighth inning.
But the internet hasn’t forgotten Abbott’s Twitter-trip up – especially not Kansas governor Sam Brownback.
Game 5 is Wednesday at Kansas City. The stadium is just a stone’s throw from Independence where Truman hailed from.
After the tweet, multiple politicians commented and also took screenshots.
