Texas Man Killed In Alligator Attack During Late-Night Swim
A 28-year-old Texas man was fatally attacked by an alligator early Friday morning.
Orange Police say officers were called to the Burkat’s Marina in the 1800 block of Mississippi in around 2:30 a.m. after receiving a call about a possible alligator attack.
His body was found hours later, not far from the scene of the attack, by Orange County sheriff’s deputies and a Texas game warden. The woman was not hurt.
According to KFDM-TV, a woman jumped in to save Woodward when the alligator attacked.
A sign is posted that warns people not to swim in the area, Justice of the Peace Rodney Price said.
Authorities estimated that the alligator was more than 11 feet long.
The reptile could have been startled early Friday or was possibly protecting its habitat, Enmon said.
He said the gator hit him while he was swimming and took him under.
Should it be confirmed the man was killed by an alligator, it will be the first time the animal has caused a death in Texas in almost 200 years, the Houston Chronical reported.
