Texas police department IDs officer killed in shootout
A North Texas police department has identified the officer who was fatally wounded in a shootout with a suspect.
Both the officer and suspect were taken to area hospitals for treatment, where they both died shortly after the shooting, the Euless police chief said. Chief Mike Brown says the suspect fired at the officer right after the officer approached. There was an exchange of gunfire between the officer and suspect, who was hit multiple times.
“Upon arrival, officers encountered a suspect with an unknown weapon”, Brown said. He was killed when cops returned fire, Brown said at a news conference.
As a precaution, nearby Harmony Science Academy and Oakwood Terrace Elementary were placed on a lockdowns, which were lifted more than an hour after the incident.
The New York Post reported Hofer, the son of European immigrants, formerly worked in the 9th Precinct on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. “He chose to go to a safer place”. In 1982, Michael Ray Williamson was killed by a drunk driver while he was on patrol.
