Texas presidential primary on Super Tuesday
Now Super Tuesday is nearly here.
Clinton claims to have support of 452 superdelegates now, when only 20 are pledged to Sanders, but none of those votes are locked in because party leaders and public officials may cast their vote for anyone they want at the convention. Only Coloradans who registered as a Democrat or Republican as of January 4 can participate in the caucuses.
Democrats will have a victor on Super Tuesday, however the 79 delegates will not officially be awarded to any candidate until after the county and state conventions. Political consultant Bill Miller explains, “The proportional sharing by congressional district is a way to kind of move the balance away from the urban areas”, so as to give the rural areas more of a say in the outcome.
There are 595 Republican delegates (about 25 percent of the total number) and 1,004 Democratic delegates up for grabs.
Q: I keep hearing about “superdelegates”. Instead they’ll only elect delegates. “We let the state know what El Paso County is doing”.
Outside of the 1988 and 2009 Democratic races, Super Tuesday generally brings the nomination fight to an end.
The new chair of the Kentucky Democratic Party, state Rep. Sannie Overly, will also get a vote, as will her vice-chair who has not yet been named. As Democratic members of the House of Representatives led an effort to win a role for themselves, superdelegates were created. That resulted in the creation of superdelegates.
The percentage of the vote a candidate gets next Tuesday is the percentage of delegates that will represent the candidate.
There is no fixed number of superdelegates because the group is defined by various categories whose members change from one election cycle to another.
Democrats: Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders. So I made a decision to pull together the best list I could of every single Democratic superdelegate for the 2016 presidential election. The remaining candidates are pulling out all the stops for one final shot at victory. No way. It still exists, but only in the Democratic Party. The Republicans will not even address that political contest during their caucus meetings, though Colorado’s delegates could play a big role later in the summer. But a candidate must win at least 15% of the vote to be allocated any delegates. This matters because, with five candidates still vying for the Republican nomination as of now, it’s still anyone’s guess who will be the top dog come July-or more importantly, whether whoever that leader is will have amassed enough delegates to secure the nomination. Republican candidates will be competing for 50 delegates in the state. Other states use a combination of the two methods.
However, state Republicans will still gather at precinct locations March 1 to begin the process of selecting delegates, as will the Democrats.
Weathers said Republicans will talk politics, bring resolutions and choose delegates to attend the Yuma County Republican Assembly.
“So you can go on Tuesday and say, “I want to be a delegate for Hillary”, and then go to the county convention and change your mind”, Schmitt said. In some other states, if a candidate drops out, his or her delegates may immediately pledge to another candidate.
While Thompson didn’t necessarily agree with that analysis from the Democratic candidates’ side, he did acknowledge that many voters do see it that way.
