Texas sheriff’s deputy shot and wounded north of Austin
Authorities at the scene said police received reports of the incident around 1:20 a.m. near Oak Meadow Drive and East Messick Loop. Austin police were working to shut down Highway 35 as a motorcade carried the body of the deputy from the hospital.
About 10 minutes after the call, deputies found Hutchinson near a creek behind his back yard with a gunshot wound, it said.
Friends and family gathered in Sgt. Hutchinson’s neighborhood in the parking lot of the Micki Krebsbach Pool in the evening to show their support.
Dozens of people, young and old, gathered in Round Rock for a prayer vigil in memory of Sgt. Craig Hutchinson.
The sergeant said Hutchison was “a big teddy bear and everybody loved him”.
Local authorities told residents to stay inside their homes as they search for the two suspects, KXAN reported.
