Texas Tech Football places scoring efficiency above clock management
The general sense in Razorback territory is a loss to Texas Tech would be a damning statement on the Arkansas football chances the rest of the year.
Head coach Kliff Kingsbury of the Texas Tech Red Raiders gathers his players before the game against the UTEP Miners on September 12, 2015 at Jones AT&T Stadium in Lubbock.
CANTRELL’S BACK: Texas Tech could also be without one of its most reliable receiving options for a third straight game, with junior Dylan Cantrell continuing to battle back spasms. Ultimately they pull an upset or two over the remaining nine games, but this isn’t one of them. We’re going to put them in the best position to be successful. We have done some personnel changes, where we can jump in and out of some formations going fast, and guys can play different positions. “We’ve got to fine-tune our moves a little bit and see things a little bit quicker”.
Past year the Red Raiders were decimated by the Razorbacks in a 49-28 route, where Arkansas accumulated 438-yards rushing, and seven touchdowns against a very porous and undisciplined Red Raider defense.
A bunch of drunken Arkansas fans got into a nasty brawl at a tailgate party prior to last weekend’s game against Toledo. Toledo, the same school that finished 123rd out of 128 FBS teams in pass defense a year ago .
Without a doubt, the Hogs are still the team we know and love, but this Toledo game was really a setback.
“When we go through our red zone philosophy, the No. 1 thing I said, “the best red zone offense is an offense that can run the football”, Enos said”.
“4-8 is our resume, and that is what everyone thinks of us”.
That included a disappointing 54-yard effort on 20 carries for Collins, who has gone from a shared spotlight to the leading role in the Razorbacks backfield following a foot injury to Jonathan Williams.
Texas Tech defensive coordinator David Gibbs said his under-performing defense “has nowhere to hide this week” as it faces Arkansas’ imposing running attack. “We’ve got to get out there and do what we do best”.
“You get what you emphasize”, offensive line coach Sam Pittman said. “We’ve thrown 73 passes and we haven’t gave up a sack and we can’t run the ball”.
Prediction: I want to believe this team has improved enough to stroll into Fayetteville and come out with a win.
“I don’t think I have to use anything from the past to motivate him”, Singleton said.
