Texas voters head to polls for Super Tuesday primary choices
About a year after he announced his candidacy, it comes down to Super Tuesday and Texas. The biggest day of the election season, Super Tuesday is worth more than one-third-36 percent-of the 2,383 delegates needed to win the Democratic nomination. For the Democrats in 2008, the drop was 40.2 percent.
Kevin Stone, 53, said the country doesn’t need a politician after voting for Trump at a Baptist church in Lubbock. Marco Rubio. That means Cruz supporters could face a scary proposition should their candidate lose in his must-win home state. Rubio placed second in the GOP primary with 31.9 percent of the vote.
Sec. Hillary Clinton (D) spoke Monday in Northern Virginia, home to wealthier, more liberal voters, and in Hampton Roads, which has a high concentration of African-American voters.
Whoever wins Virginia is likely to bolster the case that he or she can do well in the general election, as the Old Dominion has a diverse electorate and is expected to be a pivotal swing state. As a result, several precincts have been closed.
“So far they have supported Clinton”, Kolkin said.
Cruz picked up at least 52 delegates on Super Tuesday but still lags well behind Trump. Kaler, who worked as a Fellow for the Clinton campaign last winter and volunteered with previous political campaigns, organized the phone bank for a Students for Hillary “week of action” campaign.
“She sure knows what’s been going on and what’s happened in the past, ” she said.
“And I think everyone else will be way, way behind”, Cruz said. “I think that it’s great to be involved politically, but it’s more important to be intentional about that and work for a candidate you believe in”.
On the Democratic side, Clinton and Sanders will battle for the largest share of 95 delegates.
“We’ve had no huge issues, we’ve had little things here or there”, said Mash. “Getting days off, there are less restrictions on doing that”.
Andrew Sullivan, 18, a senior at Culpeper County High, voted for Sanders because of his plan for free college tuition, universal health care and redistribution of wealth.
The polls are open until 7 p.m.
“People don’t make it a priority”, Griff said.
“There needs to be more of a campaign to get people to be aware of the requirements of the voting process”, Sulaiman said.
