Texas will use two quarterbacks in season opener against Notre Dame

Both will play in the opener at Notre Dame, but a starter to be determined before the game on September 5th.

Or – OR! – this could just be a case where a coach says both quarterbacks will play in a game simply because he wants to force his opponenet to prepare for two different quarterbacks.

“There will be a clear-cut No. 1 at quarterback by Notre Dame for sure”, Strong said.

But Strong insisted it won’t be a “musical chairs” situation of constantly rotating the two as Texas. We were not impressed with Swoopes’ play last season. He completed only 58 percent of his passes for only 6.27 yards per attempt while throwing 13 touchdowns and 11 interceptons. One of Strong’s “core values” for his team is no stealing.

Also Thursday, offensive line coach Joe Wickline refused to discuss Oklahoma State’s breach-of-contract lawsuit demanding that he pay his former employer almost $600,000 for taking a job with the Longhorns in which he is not the primary play caller.

Assistant head coach for offense Shawn Watson said the plan is for the starter to play most of the series with the backup having a series early, maybe in a special package.
