Texas woman’s body stolen hours after funeral
“It is believed that in the hours after the funeral service, someone came into the funeral home and stole her remains”, San Antonio police told KSAT-ABC12 in the Alamo City. He said the August 15 date was chosen because it would have been Julie Mott’s 26th birthday. Reportedly, Mott’s casket had been moved to the hallway following her memorial service on August 15.
Workers found the casket empty the next day, unleashing a frantic search for her body that remains unsuccessful, the Express-News reported. He has offered a $20,000 reward for information leading to the recovery of Mott’s body and has promised to cooperate fully with the police investigation.
Texas police are searching for the remains of 25-year-old Julie Mott after her body was stolen from a San Antonio funeral home just hours after friends and family gathered to say goodbye. There are no surveillance cameras set up at the mortuary, but Tips said they will be making changes in security, which will include locking more doors.
“We think it is possible that the fact that someone didn’t believe in the cremation process, versus the traditional burial process”, said Dick Tips, family friends and owner of the funeral home.
“This is a family business of five generations, and I just am not believing that this is happening”, says Tips.
He told the New York Daily Times: “This is a person I know”. Javier Salazar tells KSAT. “RIP Julie and prayers to your family in this awful time”.
“So disturbing and unbelievable that someone would do this”, one friend wrote.
“As you can imagine this is not an easy thing to talk about”, said Julie Mott’s father, Tim.
“We just want our daughter’s remains returned so we can have some closure to our grief”, Mott’s father, Tim Mott, adds.
