Thaddeus Young Traded to Pacers
There are several Western Conference teams aggressively pursuing Brooklyn Nets power forward Thaddeus Young, and the Nets are working to move him to the “highest bidder”, according to The Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Last season, Young averaged 15.1 points and 9.0 rebounds per game.
At least the Russian billionaire should be willing to spend Thursday to make up for it, and the Nets will look to buy a first-round pick, with teams such as the Nuggets, Suns, Sixers and even the Celtics holding multiple first-rounders.
The rebuilding Nets could have more than $50 million in cap space as a result of the trade.
Thaddeus Young is in his prime and was thought to be a large part of the future for the Brooklyn Nets. Bird was able to bring back Jeff Teague in the deal who gives the Pacers a significant upgrade over Hill at point guard.
Brooklyn is very much in the midst of a rebuild, however, and since Young is set to make an average of $13.5 million over the next three seasons, per Spotrac.com, clearing that salary off the books is likely a priority. They did not have control over their own first-round draft pick until 2019, and are slated to choose 55th overall tonight.
The Hornets have a bunch of players hitting free agency this summer, including Nicolas Batum, Jeremy Lin, Al Jefferson, Marvin Williams and Courtney Lee. Recent NBA rumors suggest that the Pacers could be interested in trading Monta Ellis for a more natural shooting guard.
