Thames hits 9th, 10th HRs as Brewers beat Reds 11-7
Brewers first baseman Eric Thames left Wednesday’s game against the Cincinnati Reds in the top of the eighth inning with tightness in his left hamstring.
Brewers manager Craig Counsell was equally impressed.
“He’ll play tomorrow”, Counsell said of Perez.
TWINS 3, RANGERS 2: Brian Dozier hit a bases-clearing double, and Minnesota beat Texas, ending the Rangers’ AL-best four-game winning streak. Jett Bandy then hit a single to score Shaw, and Nick Franklin hit a single of his own to put runners on first and second.
“You are facing good pitchers and good catchers that are smart and they study you and your holes”, Thames said. Felix Hernandez (2-2) allowed four runs in two innings in his shortest outing since 2015, and was set to return to Seattle to have a stiff right shoulder checked by team doctors.
Davis was lifted after Arcia’s two-run homer and Villar’s base hit in the third.
Thames is the first player in the modern era to homer in each of his first six games against an opponent, according the Elias Sports Bureau. Cingrani was placed on the 10-day disabled list after suffering the injury April 20 and did not travel with the team to Milwaukee. I really have no goals for this year, Thames told reporters after hitting his 11th home run of the season Tuesday night. Said he should be OK and in lineup on Friday.
After the game, Thames was subjected to a drug test administered by Major League Baseball as part of its anti-doping program.
It was the 11th win in 14 games for the Yankees after they opened the season 1-4.
Perez has raised his batting average from.179 to.261 over the course of two games by going 5 for 7 with a double, two triples, two home runs and seven RBIs.
Wily Peralta improved to 4-1, pitching five innings for the win. He held Cincinnati to two runs on three hits and three walks over six innings on April 16.
During that time, Thames hit a total of 124 home runs, the most in the Korea Baseball Organization.
Miguel Gonzalez (3-0) lowered his ERA to 2.00, allowing an unearned run and two hits in eight innings. Davis was charged with eight runs – seven earned – and 11 hits in 2 2/3 innings in the shortest of his three career starts.
“It is wonderful when stress levels decrease you actually have fun and be loose and are able to relax”, Thames said. Cincinnati is also 4-2 in their last six road games, and 1-5 in their last six versus the NL Central.
