Thanksgiving gas prices expected to be lowest since 2008
Wednesday morning’s traffic volumes near the travel plaza were running similar to a year ago when there was no notable congestion, said Gene Donaldson, traffic manager for the Delaware Department of Transportation.
“The highways are already stacking up”. In larger cities such as Lincoln, it’s usually due to a lack of competition, she said. “It’s been heavy both ways”. “But with what’s been going on recently, I don’t care how long they take, I just want to be safe”.
William Poland was driving from Sun City, FL to Dothan, AL.
Once travelers arrive to their destination, there are other kinds of hazards they may need to consider. “It’s just been very courteous”.
“It’s been a lot busier than what we’ve seen in the past”, Kara Kimes said.
Ann crook, Aviation Director of the Elmira Corning Regional Airport said, “All year we’ve been at a record pace for this year”. All kinds of mashed potatoes and sweet potato casseroles and whatnot. Even gas prices that are dramatically cheaper than a decade ago may not be enough to offset this financial pressure. “You got $1.85, $1.75 so it’s handsome”, Joseph Bright Jr. said. Before we even have turkey, we already bought two oil fields overseas. It’s used to be 80 bucks right there. I didn’t run into prices above $2.40 until I reached stations in the Northeast Corridor, which I transited from Maryland to NY. That is the lowest price heading into a Thanksgiving holiday weekend since 2008, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
The government projects average gas prices to drop to $2.06 per gallon across the country next month.
AAA said they expect more people to travel this Thanksgiving this weekend than in the past 10 years.
Jacksonville saw prices below two dollars for a five-month period extending in to the spring of 2010 before prices went back up to the late-2000s-recession-level norms.
If you’re planning on traveling for the December holidays, you have something to cheer about as well.
“Have a plan, If you’re going to drink, you’re going to smoke, and you’re going to have some fun with your family, have a plan, have somebody designated to take you home, or plan to stay there overnight, or be willing to pick the phone up and call a taxi”, said Dr. Scott Russi of Riverbend Hospital.
By contrast, gas averages $1.88 a gallon in Hastings, $2.01 in Grand Island and Columbus and $2.02 in Omaha. We’ve seen some $1.99’s and $1.97’s in the Tallahassee area. While many people remain cautious about the economy and their finances, many thankful Americans continue to put a premium on traveling to spend the holiday with loved ones.
That’s a slight increase from previous year. One holiday gift has come early this year.
