The 2018 Ford Mustang Kills The V6 But Gets Magnetic Ride
And the new MyMode system automatically resets options like steering and suspension preferences. Some customers who had already ordered a Mustang are disappointed that they will get an older version instead of the new one. Importantly, for the first time, the Mustang gets all-LED headlights with updated DRLs embedded in the headlight cluster.
Ford’s MagneRide damper system is also available as an optional extra, in the Mustang Performance Package.
Performance is at the core of Mustang DNA, offering drivers a unique thrill of acceleration and cornering for the ultimate fun-to-drive experience. With it, the Mustang optimizes the ride and allows for better handling in all situations. Ford dropped the V6 model completely, so now the Mustang only comes with either a 2.3 liter Ecoboost or 5.0 liter V8. The existing 5.0-liter V8 has always been behind the Camaro’s 6.2-liter LT1 V8 engine. Though the company didn’t specify performance numbers, the EcoBoost engine is more powerful than the outgoing V6. In a press release, Ford says the latter engine has been “thoroughly reworked” with more power and a higher redline than any Mustang GT before.
Helping to put all that power to the wheels is a new automatic transmission, which now has 10 speeds instead of six. The manual gearbox now comes with a twin-disc clutch and dual mass flywheel to increase torque capability.
Set to arrive locally in 2018, Ford’s upgraded performance vehicle is set to be the most technologically advanced auto in its class, giving the brand a cut-price alternative to European coupes such as the BMW M4. It sports new fenders, a lower hood, and new vents.
The refreshed Mustang will also receive powertrain and tech upgrades.
If reports are to be believed, Ford is planning to do an overall redesign of the new 2018 Mustang, which is estimated to attract many female buyers. But in keeping with the new business strategy that Ford announced last fall, the Mustang is now a higher priority within Ford, and that seems to mean it will get more frequent updates going forward. The EcoBoost model gets new dual-tip exhaust pipes, the V-8 model a quad-exhaust. One of the exterior colors, Orange Fury, is the car’s new signature color and is one of three new exteriors – the other two being Royal Crimson and the ever popular Kona Blue, which returns to the Mustang color palette after a short absence.
Improved touch points and visual cues with a more premium look and feel characterize the new cockpit. Also present are the hand-stitched center console with contrast stitching and the padded knee bolsters.
Elsewhere, the seats have been restyled and feature new patterns and colour options, and the Mustang also gets a new design key fob. In the rear section, the 2018 Ford Mustang has received a new pair of LED taillights together with a new rear bumper.
