The Alamo Bowl lost some luster with Trevone Boykin’s arrest
He tweeted: “Word can’t describe how sorry I am”. Getting to play them in the last game is very cool for me. “It’s unfortunate for him because Trevone has meant so much to TCU and we love him”.
BIG GAINS: Oregon sophomore running back Royce Freeman is the only FBS player with at least 100 yards from scrimmage in every game this season, and has a national-best 71 plays that have gained at least 10 yards. “Before the actual football practice, when I first met him in person, I knew he was something special”. With Coach Patterson’s leadership, our team is greater than any one individual.
“His teammates had tried to take him back to the hotel and he broke away from them and came back”, McMannus said.
‘I wish I could be there, but I won’t because of my mistake that I have no one to blame but myself, ‘ he wrote.
In his apology, Boykin thanked TCU for the opportunity to earn a degree.
“We are disappointed in their actions and apologize to the TCU Horned Frogs Nation, Valero Alamo Bowl and city of San Antonio”, Patterson said in a statement. “But the two other quarterbacks, I’ve been practicing with the last couple years”.
He has been charged with assault of a police officer, resisting arrest, and public intoxication.
Key injuries – including ones to their star quarterbacks – and poor play at different points prevented that from becoming a reality, and the Ducks and Horned Frogs are left to wonder what might have been as they get set to meet in the Alamo Bowl on Saturday night.
TCU: Aaron Green is TCU’s first 1,000-yard rusher In five seasons with 1,171 yards the most by a Horned Frog since LaDainian Tomlinson’s 2,158 yards in 2000. Boykin amassed 164 total yards on the day and finished with two touchdowns through the air and one on the ground.
McManus said the officer allegedly struck by Boykin was treated for a swollen face and bruised but was otherwise OK.
TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin holds a jacket over his head as he is escorted from a detention center after he was released on bail, Thursday, Dec. 31, 2015, in San Antonio.
Boykin’s absence will be a big loss for the Horned Frogs in the Alamo Bowl against Oregon. Adams, the graduate transfer, has completed 155 of 240 passes (65 percent) for 2,456 yards with 25 touchdowns and six interceptions in his only season for the Ducks. Then you’ll be drooling over this matchup, which features the third-ranked offense (TCU, at 564.3 yards per game) and sixth-ranked offense (Oregon, at 548.2 yards) in the country.
“Clearly this was not an appropriate way to act”, said San Antonio Police Chief William McMannus.
