The Ant-Man movie review
Everything here from the Ant-Man tech to the film itself is scaled down compared to other Marvel films, but that doesn’t mean it’s not just as fun to watch.
In this Saturday, June 27, 2015 photo, director Peyton Reed poses for a portrait in promotion of the new film, “Ant-Man”, in Burbank, Calif. The movie releases in the USA on July 17, 2015. If there’s one thing you should know, it’s that there’s more to this Avenger than meets the eye. In the movie, however, a device that looks similar to a hearing aid is used to communicate with insects, while the helmet is used to protect Ant-Man’s mental stability when he shrinks and enlarges at will. While Luis’s unique interests came from Rudd and Adam McKay’s additions to the “Ant-Man” script, the actual character is based on Pena’s friend Pablo.
Paul Rudd recently spilled how it was interesting to play Ant-Man for Captain America: Civil War, which he admitted to working on. Falcon then says he knows a guy who could help, alluding to Ant-Man. Even the hero, played by Paul Rudd, admits as much in the film.
Ant-Man is in theatres now. Scott Lang has a young daughter, but his ex-wife doesn’t let him visit her since he just got out of prison, and Scott has to prove himself as a father.
Previous Marvel movies have showcased a Norse god of thunder, a gamma-powered smasher, a super soldier and of course, an invincible Iron Man. Gulen: What was it like putting on that suit?
“This is the first time, it’s the first thing I’ve ever done, ever, that he is like legitimately jazzed about”. There was a scene in the movie where I put it on and I’m stepping into a bathtub and I’m looking at myself in the mirror.
Rudd is likeable but slightly wasted in a role that casts him as the straight-man to Michael Peña’s lovable petty-criminal. Gulen: You’ve played some heavies: greedy, manipulative, even flamboyant. I’m a pussy cat at heart. The film’s Second Act is essentially a prolonged montage, Scott learning about his abilities and the good guys’ plotting of an ultimate heist against the bad guys, but the chemistry everyone has makes it all entertaining.
This scene sees Hope and Hank in his lab. Hank shows Hope a prototype Wasp suit he’d been working on.
By now, it should be clear to many that the special effects in these movies are on or above par as others out there.
And here’s the problem-the movie really wants us to care about these two father-daughter relationships, but isn’t really willing to do the heavy lifting to make that happen.
Alonso Duralde of The Wrap said that Reed’s movie is “exceedingly pedestrian” and added that it tried to tell jokes that weren’t amusing and tried to give thrills that weren’t at all thrilling.
