The Auburn Tigers may have just saved Tammy’s marriage

Johnson started the Tigers’ first three games and completed 59.7 percent of his passes for 473 yards and five touchdowns, but he has thrown six intereceptions. At halftime of the LSU game, Gus Malzahn told CBS Sports’ Allie LaForce that the Tigers would consider a change at quarterback but White remained on the sideline.

While Johnson’s numbers this season are fairly pedestrian – four carries for 20 yards, four catches for 24 yards – the coaching staff likes his versatility, and playmaking abilities. Johnson has been horrendous this season, leading Malzahn to choose a redshirt freshman as his new starter. “He’ll support Sean. He’ll get reps still in practice and he’ll be ready if he’s called upon”, Malzahn said. “I feel like [White] needs a shot right now”. He missed his sophomore season with a torn ACL but expectations were high for Lawson this year after he looked great in the offseason and played a dominant first half against Louisville in the opener. His coaches and his teammates have a lot of confidence in him, and he’s earned that.

But Johnson never let his place on the depth chart dictate his intensity, or focus. “He’s got that little air of confidence that quarterbacks have”.

White is a redshirt freshman and has not played a single down in his college career.

Changing quarterbacks won’t immediately solve Auburn’s problems, of course.

The Tigers have fallen out of the rankings after starting at No. 6.

He missed last season recovering from knee surgery. “We’re thinking about nothing but Mississippi State”.
