The Beatles Prepare to Appear on Streaming Services this Christmas Eve
Beginning December 24 at 12:01am local time worldwide, the entire original United Kingdom catalog of The Beatles will be available on Apple Music, Amazon Prime, Spotify, Google Play, Microsoft Groove, Rhapsody, Tidal, Spotify, Deezer, Slacker Radio and Napster for streaming.
Streaming couldn’t have been a bigger part of the music industry conversation in 2015.
The decision to bring The Beatles to all the major streaming services is a welcome change from the current trend of artists offering their music exclusively on one platform.
The band – John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr – which split in 1970, have remained hugely popular and influential after clocking up 17 United Kingdom number one singles as a group. The catalogue comprises 13 remastered studio albums and four compilations. The band has created a holiday-themed announcement on their website, with the note, “Happy Crimble, with love from us to you”.
It took until 2010 before Apple Corps allowed Beatles albums to be released on the iTunes Store, the streaming service developed by Apple Inc 15 years ago. Re/code later reported that the music would be available on all major streaming services. It seems that competition amongst these streaming services will rise drastically following the move; helping each service boost its user base respectively on Christmas Eve. And they probably can even afford to pay for a subscription to a streaming service.
Rumours of a streaming debut were confirmed via the band’s website, where the full list of services that would be getting the back catalogue were also detailed. Well, not really magical, but it will actually lead you to your favorite Beatles song or album.
