The Best And Worst Of The 2016 Grammys
The rapper performed “The Blacker The Berry” and “Alright” as well as some previously unreleased material.
Tonight’s winners are expected to be dominated by Kendrick Lamar who is nominated for 11 awards, including the first award of the night, “Best Rap Album”, which he won.
“This is for hip hop”, he said, dedicated the award to his beloved genre. His “Blacker the Berry” introduction read like a modern day adaptation of “Miseducation of the Negro” with phrases like “you want to destroy my culture” and “don’t you know I’m a proud monkey”.
Lyrics like: “Remember this, every race start from the black” which Agent Saco delivers in the song rang out inside the venue as Kendrick Lamar and his dancers delivered a spirited performance which is now being hailed as one of the best Grammy performances of all time.
When Sasco shared a clip of Lamar’s performance on Instagram, his followers had many praises for him although many thought Sasco’s presence would have made the performance better.
During his acceptance speech, Lamar thanked his family, God and his crew at Top Dawg Entertainment, all with a huge grin appropriately plastered on his face. “Mr. Lamar once again boldly challenged us to continually rethink our society’s institutions, specifically the need for change in our criminal justice system by highlighting the plight of African-American males and people of color”.
Both songs are from Lamar’s latest album “To Pimp a Butterfly”, for which the rapper won seven Grammy nominations this year. We are gonna be alright indeed!
