‘The Big Bang Theory’ 9×04 recap: Back to the future
“The guys take a fencing lesson from Barry Kripke and Sheldon finds himself in an awkward position when Kripke expresses interest in Amy”.
As for the rest of the episode, it is said that Raj (Kunal Nayyar) and Howard (Simon Helberg) will be forming a band to play at the Comic Book Store, an initiative that would surely delight Stuart (Kevin Sussman). Stuart likes the idea, as long as he doesn’t have to pay them.
In the grand tradition of geeky TV bands like Chuck’s Jeffster!, here’s hoping we’re in for an encore from Footprints on the Moon. Raj’s girlfriend Emily thinks they need to perform something they can dance too.
Sheldon does begin to see it as an opportunity to find a roommate who could make Leonard jealous, but the roommate interview process is a tough one. He told her, “It’s hard not to feel abandoned”. Sheldon opines that Amy, Leonard and Penny “poisoned” him with emotion, just like the Wizard did to the Tin Man by giving him a heart. Sheldon agrees, after all, he’ll always be excited when they come home and he’s afraid of fireworks!
Penney added, “We can think of him as a dog”. Leonard quickly gets overwhelmed with choices, leading Penny to relent and suggest Thai anyways.
And how seriously is anyone taking the hastily arranged Hofstadter marriage when Penny and Leonard aren’t even getting the chance to truly live as a married couple yet?
Leonard and Penny are both distraught by this behavior, though they suspect that Sheldon might be throwing a tantrum. Penny reminds him that the alternative is moving back in with Sheldon, which means living by his ridiculous rules and bathroom schedule. Sheldon then tells them there are more changes to come such as the newlyweds wanting to move into a house, Bernadette and Howard divorcing, and the possibility that Amy will marry someone better than him.
Left with nowhere else to turn after Hollywood actor Chris Pratt doesn’t answer Sheldon’s tweeted roommate proposal, Sheldon decides to go back in time, deciding to live like it’s 2003. The songs of the pair will be based on Thor and Indiana Jones resulting into an interesting music which could be considered as “the nerdiest rock opera sound in the world”, Christian Today noted. Howard and Raj have a comically short breakup, before reuniting the band a few seconds later.
Back at the apartment, Sheldon has Leonard sign the final roommate agreement to sever their ties. After listening to Sheldon’s worries and insecurities, Penny offers to return things to the way they were, with Leonard “living” with Sheldon and occasionally sleeping over at Penny’s apartment.
