The big winners from the 2016 Golden Globe Awards
Best actress in a TV drama went to Taraji P. Henson for “Empire”.
Brie Larson won best actress in a motion picture drama for Room, confirming her as an Oscar favorite.
The Martian picked up two Golden Globes in the “comedy” category – though even director Ridley Scott appeared to question whether it could really be classed as such, when he picked up the award for best comedy film.
Kate, who plays Apple founder Steve Jobs’s right-hand woman Joanna Hoffman in the film, also spoke about fellow actresses who have inspired her and have been a banner for women in film. The occasion saw the prestigious Cecil B. DeMille Award being bestowed on actor Denzel Washington.
The stars of the winning films, Leonardo DiCaprio and Matt Damon, also took home the Globes for best actor, for a drama and comedy, respectively. Best TV miniseries went to Wolf Hall, Maura Tierney of The Affair garnered the honors for TV supporting actress, and Oscar Isaac won his first Globe for actor in a TV miniseries for HBO’s down-to-earth true-life tale Show Me a Hero.
The Revenant. So far, Spotlight has been a front-runner for best picture, and while The Revenant probably doesn’t overtake Tom McCarthy’s acclaimed journalism drama, the film’s best drama win stakes its claim as a serious competitor.

Two tales of survival, The Revenant and The Martian, dominated the 73rd annual Golden Globe Awards on Sunday. “Not even Sean Penn will find me”, Gervais joked in his monologue.
“Mr. Robot” was the victor for best drama series.

But perhaps the most emotional moment of the night came when Stallone took the stage to claim his award for “Creed” to the strains of the “Rocky” theme song and raucous applause, proving – much as the “Rocky” films themselves have always done – that there’s nothing Hollywood likes better than a good comeback story.
It was his third Golden Globe victory and seems to put DiCaprio on the path to his first Oscar.
On the television side of the awards, the Amazon streaming series “Mozart in the Jungle” was named the best comedy series.
“Listen”, he told the stars, “if you do win tonight, remember no one cares about that award as much as you do”.
