The Binding of Isaac rejected from App Store due to violence
Apple’s rejection of it, however, wouldn’t be the first for the game.
“Your app contains content or features that depict violence towards, or abuse of, children, which is not allowed on the App Store”, reads the rejection letter (via Eurogamer).
The game’s cryptic endings are still widely debated, though the child abuse is a bit more clear-cut with the game’s young protagonist facing physical threats from his mother and a variety of enemies.
Inspired by the biblical story of Isaac, the game is about a baby who hides in the basement after his mother hears God’s voice asking her to sacrifice her son to prove her faith.
Rebirth is a new version of 2011’s The Binding of Isaac, created by Super Meat Boy designer Edmund McMillen. Nintendo rejected the game for its 3DS and Wii U platforms for “questionable religious content” but later backtracked and approved the game for sale.
Rebirth launched for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita in 2014. The main image that springs to mind when thinking about the game is it titular character huddled on the ground crying, surrounded by monsters.
Hopefully, Rodriguez and his company can find a way to make their game available for iOS supporters so as not to disappoint them. While it would be a treat to play it on your iPad or Apple TV (one doesn’t simply have excuses to use Apple TV!), we will have to take the “wait-and-see” approach as the always excellent team at Nicalis talk things over with Apple.
