The Boy Scouts are dropping the word ‘boy’ from their name

The Boy Scouts was described by its British founder, Robert Baden-Powell, in this way: “Scouting is a man’s job cut down to a boy’s size”, as well as “Scouting is a game for boys under the leadership of boys under the direction of a man”.

The Boy Scouts of America announced they will be changing their official name to Scouts BSA, and is now welcoming girls.

But the world is increasingly losing its marbles when it comes to things like this.

Stephen Medlicott the Marketing Director for Boy Scouts of America said “That’s why we love “Scout Me In” – because it speaks to girls and boys and tells them, ‘This is for you”. “We celebrate that difference”. While Girl scouts have their annual cookie sales, BSA don’t have the same kind of universal fundraising tool.

Never mind that Harvard President Drew Faust graduated from all-female Bryn Mawr College. The organization has vocally opposed gender inclusion the whole way through.

Let’s talk scout pledges.

According to news reports, Girl Scout leaders said they were blindsided by the decision to include girls in the Boy Scouts of America. “Then they can join forces”. The pace is expected to intensify over the summer under a national multimedia recruitment campaign called “Scout Me In”, the AP reported.

Girl Scouts is the preeminent leadership development organization for girls and the girl expert for over 100 years.

There have been mixed feelings since the Boy Scouts announced last October that it would start letting girls enter the ranks.

The overall impact of the BSA’s policy change on Girl Scouts membership won’t be known any time soon.

As for the Girl Scouts, the organization said they did not see this move coming. Archbishop Aquila says the Little Flowers’ Girls Clubs, the Federation of North American Explorers, Columbian Squires, and Fraternus are also acceptable scouting alternatives for Catholics.

“You get to be outdoors and you get to have fun with all your friends”, said Zoie Rosemeyer, who is seven years old and lives in Jupiter. “I think the boys need time to mature, as well as the girls”.

She can rattle off success story after success story just locally.

In an effort to be more inclusive, the Boy Scouts of America are dropping the “Boy” from the name of their lead program, the Boy Scouts. Most of the actual Cub packs and Scout troops, however, will be single gender.
