The Canadians Dominate The Boston Bruins At The 2016 Winter Classic
Gallagher added the primary assist on Max Pacioretty’s goal at 8:49 of the third, ending any Bruins hope after they had scored their first goal of the game.
The new year begins with a terrific matchup between two of the league’s most storied franchises.
FOXBORO, MA – JANUARY 01: A detail view of the helmet of Mike Condon #39 of the Montreal Canadiens showing New … They’re a team that didn’t sit on one this time around.
“When you’ve got a big game like that – it was a big game in the standings for us – but you’ve got to be ready to go and we came out flat and they took advantage of it”, said Boston forward Jimmy Hayes.
The steam was audible from the long list of media waiting to get into the room, which doubles as the visitor’s locker room during Patriots’ games. Think about that: Condon just had the game of his life and he was asking about his former high school team. “We were a little hesitant, and it showed in the first period”. Nonetheless, the Bruins should have at least had a physical answer, if not a skillful one, for the Canadiens. The Canadiens were in front of the net every chance they got. Before losing Price, the Habs were averaging 3.6 goals per game. “We’re playing some big teams coming up and it’s huge points for us”. However, a goalie can’t win a game on his own.
Over the course of the second period Montreal picked up consecutive penalties. The Bruins are the first team to host the Winter Classic twice. In the second power play in particular, the Bruins had a lot of zone time and managed some good shots on goal. But when they make it 3-0, it makes it even more hard to climb. The bright side is they weren’t shut out, but the downside is that no matter the stage the game was still worth two points and they hadn’t gained any. “Obviously it’s a big rivalry, and the focus is always on those games more than maybe other games”.
For now, they have to prove they’re able to move on from such an utter disappointment.
The Bruins just haven’t learned from their mistakes. These events are portrayed in much the same way as the Winter Classic: a way to give spectators a unique viewing experience while also drawing in new fans. Paul Byron struck again nearly right after that and then some more rough stuff after that, which was followed Zac Rinaldo of the Bruins starting a scrum.
In Vancouver, the Canucks edged the Anaheim Ducks 2-1 in a shoot-out. Sure, it was fun to watch the Rangers defeat the Islanders and Devils at Yankee Stadium, but the game didn’t feel almost as significant as the Winter Classic one did. While the conditions were considered to be “dangerous” for practice 24 hours earlier with the sun shining, there was cloud cover over the stadium and it was 4 C, which meant the puck dropped without delay at 1:30 p.m. EST.
